Bandon Dunes is quite arguably the most remarkable and acclaimed golf course complex to open anywhere in the world in decades, and is probably best explained in Stephen Goodwin's excellent 2006 book, Dream Golf: The Making of Bandon Dunes.
Bandon founder Mike Keiser chose Scotland's David McLay Kidd to design the first course here (Bandon Dunes), and after it opened to worldwide acclaim, Keiser chose another "retro-traditionalist" (Tom Doak) to design a second course, Pacific Dunes. Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, another pair of traditionalist-leaning architects who are justifiably famous for Sand Hills GC in Nebraska, designed Bandon's third course (Bandon Trails), while Tom Doak and close associate Jim Urbina did the fourth course, Old Macdonald -- a tribute to architect C.B. Macdonald that opened in 2010. A fifth course, the 13-hole, par-3 Bandon Preserve opened in 2012 with a design by Coore and Crenshaw.
How respected is this collection of courses? The USGA held the 2011 men's and women's U.S. Amateur Public Links Championships here, while Pacific Dunes is ranked #12 in Golf Magazine's list of top 100 United States courses.

Played all five courses in 2.5 days with my son and every minute was worth it. Each course has its own challenges and they are very different from one another. Definitely a must trip and we will be going back very soon,

The weather was sunny but really windy which added to the challenge but it was a beautiful course. We highly recommend the caddie service as it took at least 8 strokes off my score because of the course knowledge and wind factor. One of the best courses ever.

I'm lucky that I live in Oregon and play all four courses on a regular basis. Simply, a golf experience that never gets old. The courses can be tamed when the weather is pleasant but when the weather turns, bring your "A" game.

Bandon's slogan "golf as it was meant to be" rings true. Real links golf without having to fly to Ireland. 4 spectacular courses, each with its distinct personality on magnificent links land overlooking the boiling surf. There is nothing I would change at Bandon – from the morning breakfasts, the shuttles, course set-up and McKee's Pub – everything is perfect for a group outing – the staff and lodgings are first-rate - not too fancy, but very comfortable. Expensive it is, but off-season rates are affordable if you don't mind taking a chance on the weather. Should be on every serious golfer's bucket list.

I can see why the Bandon Dunes Resort courses are rated in the Top 20 Public Courses. Truely a dream destination for golfers. Be prepared to be humbled by the golf gods. Get your regular foursome together for the annual golf outing and go play these courses! Be prepared that the grass on the greens are a bit sparse, but they roll true.
