Royal Fremantle is one of the few golf clubs that still occupies its original site. Among the challenges here is the prevailing sea breeze, colloquially known as the "Fremantle Doctor." Several notable professional golfers have emerged from RFGC's junior program, including Craig Parry and Greg Chalmers, as well as noted amateurs Dennis Bell and Glenn and Peter Carbon.

The first nine holes were laid out by Arthur Oliphant and Peter Anderson, and opened for play in August of 1906. The second nine debuted in August, 1909.
