Quite a bit of history has occurred at this site; Napoleon Bonaparte lived on this estate for a few years. The course itself was designed by the legendary architect Harry S. Colt and debuted in 1894; since that time Colt's design has essentially been unchanged. The club is located about ten miles southeast of central London.

Visitors are welcome on weekdays only; the standard visitor walking rate is £40. Societies are also welcome with advance arrangement.
