The course at this very private club was designed by architect Max Behr and opened in 1925. The legendary architect Dr. Alister Mackenzie praised Behr's design in Mackenzie's book, "The Spirit of St. Andrews," saying:
"Lakeside had none of the natural advantages of the Monterey course, the Olympic at San Francisco or even many of the other courses in Los Angeles district, but it has been so admirably designed and constructed that it compares favorably with any inland course. In a word, Lakeside is one of the world's greatest golf courses."

I was fortunate enough to play this year in the Melanoma Foundation tournament hosted by Kevin Nealon. I've been able to play quite a few nice courses and this is one of the best groomed courses I've ever been able to play on. While not the most difficult course, it still has its challenges, and was a lot of fun. Hospitality and organization was great, and you couldn't beat the comedy both on and off the course - there's a reason Nealon and his star buddies get paid to be funny - they are! Value was obviously great as my foursome was hosted. Would love to play again next year; thoroughly enjoyed it!
