The rough in 2012 is exactly what everyone would have liked for The Open last year - thick and very tough. Bunker faces are undergoing a transformation after the Open, allowing the revetted faces to grow so that there is a covering of grass. Arrogance in the clubhouse is misunderstood - call it traditional values and you will enjoy it!

Stunning course and a real test especially when the wind blows (which it amost always does). A course that the better player will apreciate but perhaps the higher handicapper will be frustrated by. The bunkers are like black holes swallowing up what looked like a great shot moments before. More \"Adolfs\" than I care to remember. A memorable 36 holes in one day. Shame we had to rush the lunch as what I did manage to eat was great.

Course was in stunning condition. Tee times 10mins apart and 2 ball only set for a great game with a feeling of having the course to yourself. 3hr 20mins. Apparently members dont play on 4 ball days as it can get very slow. Clubhouse full of history, but if you want a meal after, dont take your jacket off, or else its the firing squad for you....Even when eating its not allowed. Would like to see the older members in the height of summer deal with that situation. lol

The course is suffering because of lack of rain. The insistance of the R&A that mats be used on the fairways and first cut in the lead up to the British Open was understandable, but detracted significantly from the enjoyment of the round. No discount was offered which was disappointing. Although the wind was up the course from the weekday tees was not as challenging as I would have expected 6 weeks before the Open. Hospitality was sadly lacking and a certain arrogance pervaded the club which was a shame. In short, if you are looking to play one of the Open Courses head for Turnberry as you will receive a great welcome, great hospitality and some of the best views that UK golf has to offer.
