Atlanta Athletic Club was, for many years, the home course of the legendary Bobby Jones, who captured golf's Grand Slam in 1930 - a year and name memorialized in the club's street address. While the club dates to 1898, they built their first course at East Lake in 1906, at which AAC hosted the 1950 U.S. Women's Amateur (Beverly Hanson) and the 1963 Ryder Cup (USA 23, GB 9).
After moving to this location in suburban Johns Creek, the club had Robert Trent Jones, Sr. build two championship-level 18-hole courses and a 9-hole, par-3 layout. At this site, the club has hosted the following important events:
• 1976 U.S. Open (Jerry Pate)
• 1981 PGA Championship (Larry Nelson)
• 1982 Junior World Cup (Nacho Gervas, Jose Maria Olazabal)
• 1984 U.S. Mid-Amateur (Mike Podolak)
• 1990 U.S. Women's Open (Betsy King)
• 2001 PGA Championship (David Toms)
• 2002 U.S. Junior Amateur (Charlie Beljan)
• 2011 PGA Championship (Keegan Bradley)
• 2014 U.S. Amateur Championship (Gunn Yang)
Ahead of hosting the 2014 U.S. Amateur Championship, the club began converting the greens on both courses from bent grass to Champion Bermuda in July of 2013. Practice facilities include a teaching studio, a 62-bay range, four pitching/chipping greens, two practice bunker greens, and two putting greens.
This is a private country club; visitors are permitted only as guests of members. Membership is by invitation only.

We played the highlands. what more can I say it was the best groomed and maintained course I have ever played. We were treated by the staff very well. It was also the toughest test of Golf I have experienced yet.

Love both Riverside and Highlands courses, but Highlands is the PGA Championship course. I don't know what it is about Highlands, but I've played some of my best golf there, and, like this outing, had it kick my butt, too. But it's a great test of both course management and skill.
