Carlton Oaks has been a local landmark since 1958 and has undergone several major enhancements and design changes throughout the years. Located just 20 minutes from downtown San Diego, we are close to the City's most popular tourist attractions.
1989 marked the rebirth of a legendary course with its new Dye Design. With its meandering creeks, its more than 400 matured trees and its majestic lakes, the new Dye Designed Carlton Oaks once again became the pinnacle of golf in San Diego County. Dye has taken the spectacular beauty of Southern California, incorporated the qualities of modern golf course architecture, added style, grace and excellence to create a course that legends are made of.
More recently in 2003, the yardage was increased to 7,225 yards creating a more challenging course. The five strategically placed tees make the course either a gentle course for beginners or a challenging difficult layout for the championship caliber player. Water comes into play on most holes with 3 lakes and 2 creeks gently winding through the course and naturally, like most Dye Designed courses, there is a generous use of railroad ties. Nature in the form of matured trees, ponds, and waterfowl blended with classic Dye architecture make Carlton Oaks the ultimate golfing experience in San Diego County.

Way overpriced for the conditions. fairways are dead or dirt, bunkers need lots of work, and no cart service

No fairways just dead grass. What a shame.

Agree on the course condition, I played there the Wed before XMAS, fairways sucked, greens were slow and grainy yet they charged full price? Plus it was freezing down there.

Carlton Oaks is in horrible condition. That is why I gave the maintenance one star. They have put new sod on 85% there greens in a careless fashion. Even there practice putting green in front of the club house was unusable.

Excellent holes: interesting and challenging and playable. One of the best values in San Diego.
